How I help you choose the right insurance
I’m Jesús Gómez, a FINMA-registered independent advisor. I’m not tied exclusively to any insurer, so I can look at the market objectively and help you choose what genuinely suits you.
What to consider before choosing
Basic insurance covers the same things with every insurer. What makes the difference is how you choose your deductible and model, and whether you qualify for a subsidy. That’s where I can help.
I help you work out which deductible suits you, based on how you use healthcare and your budget.
I explain the differences between HMO, Telmed, family doctor (Hausarzt) and standard models, and we choose the one that fits you.
I compare the insurers in your canton and show you which offers the best option for your profile.
I check whether you qualify for a premium subsidy (Prämienverbilligung), the cantonal help that reduces your premium, and handle the application for you.
What supplementary insurance can include
With the right supplementary insurance, many people in Switzerland get cover they didn’t know they could have. These are some of the most common benefits, depending on the policy:
Clear, independent and personalised advice
I explain everything clearly and simply, without jargon, at every step.
I’m not tied exclusively to any insurer. I look at the market and recommend what fits you.
My advice costs you nothing. If any service is invoiced separately, I’ll make that clear from the start.
I don’t disappear once you’ve signed up. I’m here for reviews, changes and questions whenever you need.
Trust built on real experiences
“Thanks to JGomezConsultant’s advice, I was able to choose health insurance that fits my needs. In just a few months I’ve received CHF 1,000 towards my eye surgery and another CHF 1,000 towards the gym through my supplementary insurance. The advice was clear, professional and really helpful for understanding the Swiss insurance system.”
“Jesús helped me so much to understand how health insurance works in Switzerland. He reviewed my personal situation and advised me on the best option for my needs. He also told me about the Prämienverbilligung (premium subsidy) and handled the whole application for me himself. Thanks to his help, I now pay less for my health insurance. I fully recommend him.”

When do I need to take out health insurance after moving to Switzerland?
If you move to Switzerland and are subject to compulsory health insurance, you generally have three months to arrange cover. Your insurance then usually applies retroactively from the date your obligation began. Even so, it’s best to choose carefully from the start rather than leave it to the last minute.
What does basic health insurance cover in Switzerland?
Basic insurance (Grundversicherung) covers essential medical care: doctor’s visits, hospital treatment, emergencies, maternity, medicines on the official list and a contribution towards ambulance transport. The cover is the same with every insurer — what varies is the premium and the insurance model.
What does supplementary insurance cover in Switzerland?
Supplementary insurance (Zusatzversicherung) extends your basic cover. Depending on the policy, it can include glasses, alternative medicine, a private hospital room, wider cover abroad or extra preventive check-ups. The exact benefits depend on the product you choose. Unlike basic insurance, supplementary insurance is subject to the insurer’s acceptance criteria, so before cancelling an existing policy, make sure your new cover has been approved.
Which deductible should I choose?
It depends on how you use healthcare. If you rarely see a doctor, a high deductible lowers your monthly premium. If you have frequent appointments or regular medication, a lower deductible may pay off. I’ll help you work it out for your situation.
Can I switch health insurer in Switzerland?
Yes. You can generally switch basic insurance at the end of the year, provided your insurer receives your cancellation by 30 November. If you have the standard model with the lowest deductible, you can also switch at the end of June, provided your cancellation reaches the insurer by 31 March. I can help you check the deadlines that apply to you, and I take care of the switch and the paperwork.
How do I compare health insurance in Switzerland?
Basic insurance covers the same with every insurer, so the comparison comes down to the monthly premium, the deductible, the insurance model and the quality of service. You can start with my health insurance comparison tool, or we can go through it together in a free consultation.
